Zoom and Pan Settings

When using zoom and pan features, the initial display size of the viewer window and the image is controlled by values in configuration files stored on the CONTENTdm Server. The default settings can be defined by both the CONTENTdm System Administrators and Collection Administrators, applied globally or to individual collections.

Zoom and pan default settings can be changed in CONTENTdm v. 3.7 and the JPEG2000 Extension; the process is the same.

The information below describes the windows in which the image views are displayed; the default settings within the viewers; and how to change default settings.

The Zoom and Pan Viewer
The default window size is set at 500x500 pixels and images are shown at the highest defined zoom level that allows the entire image to be displayed in the window. If an image is too large to be displayed in the window in its entirety (even at the lowest defined zoom level), the image will be displayed at the lowest defined zoom level with a scroll bar to enable viewing.

The Document Viewer
The default window width is set at 500 pixels and the default window height is automatically adjusted as appropriate to maintain the aspect ratio of the image. The image is scaled so that the full width of the image can be displayed in the window.

To change Zoom and Pan default settings

The default settings for each the views described above are stored in the file imageconf.txt. The default imageconf.txt file is shown below. The function of each setting is described within the configuration file.

System Administrators
System Administrator can change the default global settings for all collections on the Server. The settings are stored in a configuration file, imageconf.txt in the Server conf directory.

Collection Administrators
Collection Administrators can override global settings by copying the imageconf.txt file from the Server conf directory to the index/etc directory of individual collections.

To change default settings within the Image Viewer Configuration File, edit the existing values that appear within any command line which is not preceded by a # symbol.

Note: The addition of other zoom levels to the Defined Zoom Level values can slow application performance by requiring additional calculations and processing. We recommend you test your changes to verify that any noticeable delays are acceptable. The Defined Zoom Level may not exceed 100.
