Clicking Update/delete existing items enables Collection Administrators to make changes to collections. The collection editing interface that you use is determined by your operating system (UNIX or Windows, for example) and security settings.

Collection Administrators have access to one of CONTENTdm's two update/delete interfaces: the Collection Editor (introduced in Version 3.3) or the Simple Update/delete interface (prior to Version 3.3).

• The Collection Editor enables you to edit individual items, perform global edits to metadata, or delete multiple items at once.
• The Simple Update/delete interface enables you to edit individual items, perform global search and replace operations or delete items.

(Note that users without Collection Administration privileges can edit items in a collection through the Acquisition Station. See Editing Items in a Collection for more information. Items edited in this manner must still be reviewed and uploaded to the collection by a Collection Administrator.)
