Exporting Metadata

To export metadata:

  1. Open the Collection Administration console by clicking on the Administration menu within Acquisition Station.

  2. From the Administration menu, select Collection Administration.

  3. Or access the Collection Administration console through your Web browser using the url http://your.server.address/cgi-bin/admin/start.exe.

  4. From the Collection Administration console, click Export metadata.

CONTENTdm offers the following export choices:

  • Tab-delimited format — Export collection metadata to a tab-delimited file. Tabs are used as the delimiting character. You can choose to export the collection field names into the first record of the tab-delimited file by selecting the check box option.

  • XML format — CONTENTdm provides two XML export options. Click Export to XML and choose either:

    1. Dublin Core XML format, or
    2. Custom XML tag format — Refer to the custom tag formats specified by the third-party software to which you are exporting metadata. Options located at the bottom of the Define XML Export page allow you to choose to repeat or combine metadata fields that use identical XML tags or contain multiple controlled vocabulary terms.

  • OCLC SiteSearch — Export collection metadata to an appropriate format for use in an OCLC SiteSearch database.
