Using Custom Display Images

When working with collections that support full resolution images, you can use your own preprocessed display copies rather than the display images that are generated automatically by CONTENTdm.

Before you begin, make certain your display copies and full resolution images are located in separate folders. The display files must have the same root file name as the corresponding full resolution images so they can be associated with one another, such as tree.tif and tree.jpg or page12.tif and page12.jpg, for example.

To add a batch of full resolution images and use your own custom display copies:

  1. Click batch add icon Batch Add. The Batch Add wizard opens.

  2. Choose Import files from a directory or Import related files to create a Compound Object from the Batch Add files dialog. Click Next.

  3. Browse to and click on the directory where your full resolution files are located. Click Next.

  4. From the Full Resolution Settings dialog box, select Yes and Use preprocessed display images. Browse to and click on the directory containing your preprocessed display images. Click Next.

  5. Full Resolution Settings

  6. The Finish dialog open. Click Advanced to enter metadata using the Template Creator or click Finish.

To add a single image and use your own custom display image:

  1. Turn off automatic display image generation within your project, by clicking the full resolution menu Full Resolution menu.

  2. Select Options and click the Station Properties tab.

  3. Select Do Not Auto-Generate Display Image.

  4. Station Properties

  5. From the full resolution menu Full Resolution menu, click Import File. A browse dialog box opens.

  6. Browse to and select the full resolution image to import. Click Open.

  7. import full resolution

  8. A second browse dialog box opens. Browse to and select the custom display image. Click Open.

  9. Select Display Version

  10. Add metadata and save the item to your project.
