Optimizing Display Images

Use image optimization to generate higher quality display images in CONTENTdm.

Image optimization is available only when you import full resolution images and choose to have CONTENTdm automatically generate display copies. Image optimization enables you to specify settings and then preview the legibility and quality of display images presented to end-users.

Using image optimization you can:

  • Use the Display Settings pulldown list to specify maximum pixel dimensions of the bounding box that displays images within CONTENTdm.
  • Specify image rights settings to display copyright information (banding, branding, and watermarking). Note: Until you turn off or change your image rights settings, copyright information will be applied to all images you import to the project whether or not they are full resolution images.
  • Choose basic image processing functions (blur, sharpen, and remove noise).
  • Specify JPEG display image quality or change display images to GIFs.
  • JPEG2000 Acquisition Station users can convert display images to JPEG2000 and access JPEG2000 settings.

To optimize images during the Batch Add process:

  1. From the Full Resolution Setting dialog, click Advanced.

  5. Click Save if you are satisfied with the settings, and click Close. Or modify your settings by clicking Options.

  6. To exit Image Optimization without saving your settings, click Close.

To optimize a single full resolution image or establish image optimization settings before importing full resolution images:

  1. From your Acquisition Station project, click the Tools menu button Tools menu.

  2. Select Image Optimization. The Image Optimization dialog opens.

  3. Click Open. Browse to and select a full resolution JPEG or TIFF image.

  4. Click Options to establish image settings.

  5. Click Preview to view images and see how the settings will be applied.

  6. Click Save if you are satisfied with the settings, and click Close. Or modify your settings by clicking Options.
