Preparing a Staging Location
Make certain that the collection you are working with supports full resolution images. Full resolution collection settings are established by the Collection Administrator. Tip: You can quickly ascertain if the collection to which your project is connected supports full resolution. Do this by opening the project and viewing the top toolbar. The If you are creating a new project to work with full resolution images, determine a staging location for your full resolution images in advance. You must specify this staging location when you create a new project that is associtated with a collection that supports full resolution images. Be sure to designate a location with ample storage space. A staging location is simply a large area where your full resolution volumes (folders of images) will be stored temporarily until you are ready to transfer them to a more permanent place such as a CD-ROM or an online location. As you import files into your project, copies of the full resolution files will be saved to this staging area in Volumes. (Volume size is establishd by the Collection Administrator using the Full Resolution Manager and is dependent on the type of permanent storage solution planned for your archival images.) After you have determined the staging area location, start a new project by clicking on the New Project button on the Acquisition Station's toolbar. The New Project Wizard will guide you through the steps to create a project and prompt you for the location of your staging area. (See Creating a New Project for more information on setting up your project.) Once the project is created you are ready to begin acquiring images.
