JPEG2000

A JPEG2000 Acquisition Station is required to use JPEG2000 features. To determine if the Acquisition Station you are using supports JPEG2000, verify that the Acquisition Station title bar contains the text "JPEG2000." JPEG2000 Acquisition Stations are licensed separately from the standard CONTENTdm Acquisition Stations.

JPEG2000 is an ideal format for efficiently displaying large scale images at high resolutions. The JPEG2000 Acquisition Station supports the creation and display of JPEG2000 (JP2) images. Full resolution JPEG and TIFF images can be converted to JP2 display images during the import process.

Before you begin importing full resolution images for a new collection, ensure that the collection to which you are uploading is enabled to support full resolution. Collection Administrators can enable full resolution using the Full Resolution Manager which is accessible from the Collection Administrator console. Prepare a staging location on your computer or local network. Then begin adding images to your project, individually or in batches.

Note: Some features within CONTENTdm are not applied to the JPEG2000 images format. These features are Image Rights, Image Processing, and Display Settings (within Image Optimization dialog). Copyrights and image processing should be applied before importing images into CONTENTdm.

Existing JPEG2000 images may be imported into JPEG2000 Acquisition Station projects, but should be imported as regular image files, not as full resolution files. For the most efficient delivery of images, existing JPEG2000 files should be tiled in an image processing application before they are imported to CONTENTdm. Only JPEG2000 files with the .JP2 extension are supported in CONTENTdm.
