Using Custom Thumbnail Images

Custom icons are especially useful for documents, videos, and audio files where a thumbnail image of the item itself may not be immediately recognizable. Any thumbnail icon within CONTENTdm can be replaced with your own custom thumbnail.

Custom thumbnail images must be created outside of the Acquisition Station and should be no greater than 160 pixels wide and 120 pixels high.

Following the steps below, you can replace the thumbnail image of an item with your own custom thumbnail image.

  1. Select the item for which you want to use a custom thumbnail.

  2. Open the item in your Acquisition Station Project by double-clicking on the item. This opens the item and the Media Editor. Or, import the item into your project by clicking Import File from the Acquisition Station toolbar. The item and the Media Editor will open.

  3. Click Custom Thumbnail. The Create Thumbnail dialog box will appear.

  4. Click on Custom, this opens a browse dialog box. Locate the icon to use as a custom thumbnail (the thumbnail icon may not exceed 160 pixels wide by 120 pixels high), highlight it, and click Open. The dialog box closes.

  5. The new thumbnail will appear in the Create Thumbnail dialog box, click Close.

  6. Make any additional changes in the Media Editor and click Save when you have finished. This closes the Media Editor and the new thumbnail image is displayed in your project.
